A Scripture prayer inspired by Revelation 12:7–12 — a prayer about the conflict for the heart, surrendering our allegiance to Jesus, and trusting the One who has already overcome.
Father,
This morning, as I look at the conflict described in Revelation, I am reminded again that behind all the noise, deception, accusation and struggle, there is one great question:
Who has my heart?
Lord, I want the answer to be You.
The enemy may accuse.
He may deceive.
He may discourage.
He may try to convince me that You have forgotten me or that following You is too difficult.
But help me to remain.
When I cannot understand what You are doing, help me to trust You.
When obedience costs me something, help me to trust Your heart.
When I am tired, help me to rest in You.
When I am tempted to rely on myself, remind me that I am not holding my life together. You are.
Father, forgive me for the times when my relationship with You has become a list of religious things to do.
I do not want to merely know the rules.
I want to know You.
I do not want to obey because I am frightened that You will reject me.
I want obedience to grow naturally from a heart that has discovered how deeply it is loved.
And Lord, thank You for the Sabbath.
Thank You that before there was sin, before there was Sinai, before there was all the striving and brokenness of this world, You created a space in time and invited humanity to rest with You.
Teach me to hear Your heart in the words:
“Remember the Sabbath day.”
Let me hear more than a command.
Let me hear an invitation:
“Come away with Me.
Stop striving.
Put down what you are carrying.
Remember who made you.
Remember who sustains you.
Remember whose you are.”
Lord Jesus, You said:
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
So teach me to love You.
Because the more clearly I see Your character,
the more I know Your heart,
the more I understand the cross,
the more I realise how patiently You have carried me,
the more I want my life to say:
Jesus, You have my allegiance.
You have my worship.
You have my obedience.
You have my heart.
And when the dragon attacks, when circumstances become difficult, when deception surrounds us and when following You becomes costly, make me one of those who remain.
Not because I am strong.
Not because I have performed perfectly.
But because I have learned where my strength is found.
Keep me close to Jesus.
And may my obedience never become an attempt to earn Your love.
May it simply be the response of a child who knows that she is already loved.
Father, when Sabbath comes, teach me to stop.
To breathe.
To remember.
To rest in what You have already done.
And to marvel again that the Creator of the universe desires relationship with me.
You have my heart, Lord.
Keep it close to Yours.
In the precious name of Jesus,
Amen.
